Bantu Knots are a serious Statement Hairstyle. Bantu Knots, also know as Zulu Knots are a traditional African hairstyle, now updated for the modern woman as a hairstyle with attitude and confidence.
Taking the knots out afterwards leads to some pretty spectacular hairstyles too!
How to do a Bantu Knot
Tuck the hair under itself or use a cloth hair tie or hair rubber band to secure each Bantu knot. Do not use a tie that is too tight because it could break your hair, and choose something that is not too noticeable or can be hidden under the hair

Prom Updos Hairstyle Galleries

When it comes to hairstyles for proms, updos are always somewhere on the top of the list of hairstyle choices because of the many ways the hair can be styled and the elegant looks created. Updos generally offer chic looks that really open up the facial area and bring out feminine details. This is especially true for updos where the hair is styled up and away from the face leaving it a blank slate that comes through foremost. Prom updos go well with any dress as well because the hair is not covering any part of the dress. However, many women are still uncomfortable with updos because of emphasis placed on the face. There are also plenty of updos that use features like strands coming down the sides of the face to create a softening effect as well as increase facial framing. This allows for an abundance of hairstyles to compliment any facial shape and perfect for a gala like the prom. Prom Updo Features When deciding on an updo for prom, there are several factors to look at including the front of the hairstyle and how the hair is done in the back. Many prom goers want something comfortable and not to delicate because it is a time to have fun after all and not worry if a hairstyle will just fall apart. This starts at the back of the hairstyle as to where to bun or tie up the hair. Updos can have the hair styled up right behind the crown into creative buns or can have the hair tied at the nape in a chignon or a little off center. Updos with the hair bunned towards the crown are more delicate while the ones with the hair near the nape are usually more relaxed. Then there is the style of bun to choose from. For an event like prom, going with a simple bun is definitely more enjoyable that a complicated, threaded bun that is too tight or could come loose. This allows girls to dance and have fun without worry. The other consideration is the front of the hair which can make a huge difference on the total appearance. The hair can be styled with a fringe, slightly swept locks, or pleated straight back. There can be hanging tendrils on the sides of the face or messy strands pointing in different directions. Each of these unique additions can really create beautiful updos. Prom Updo Pictures Fancy Bun Photo provided by Jamison Shaw This updo has a fancy pony loop at the back with sleek, swept front for a very beautiful result. Many updos can be created like this one which can easily be accomplished by using a paddle brush to style the hair sleek before pinning back. This hairstyle brings out facial features and is better for heart and oval shapes but other shapes will find it effective as well. Bun at the Nape Photo by Tom Carson Style by Pat’s Hair Design, Lakeland, FL This updo has the hair tied near the nape of the neck but slightly to the side. The slight sweeping of the hair the front and the curls add softening features to this updo. To style, first us a paddle brush and blow dryer to smooth hair with an off center part. Use a curling iron to add curls to the locks before brushing back and pinning in a simple design. Classic Messy Updo Celebrity Updos Photo provided by Jamison Shaw This hairstyle from Jamison Shaw Salons shows off the classic high updo with a messy look. Some women may not like this style but it is definitely very chic and really shows off beautiful faces. The messy design softens up the look a tiny bit as well. This is harder to style because is first curled and then brushed upwards with many strands left untied to give the unruly appearance. The key is to secure but not too tightly. Check out the Jamison Salon Gallery for more lovely hairstyles. Photo by PRPhotos.com Ashley Tisdale often displays some wild hairstyles and this one is a great example that would match with the prom. Prom goers don’t want the same hairstyles and this one looks excellent yet is very unique. The updo is sectioned in parts with the front strands covering the facial area. The hair is brushed up towards the crown and a creative loop design is produced. This is very hard to accomplish and going to a professional is recommended for this updo. Photo by PRPhotos.com Photo by PRPhotos.com Jessica Alba looks breathtaking in this updo that brings out her facial features. The hair is not straight or smooth but features curls and waves that are parted marginally off-center and brushed towards the back. The back of the hairstyle is bundled and clipped into a messy bun with many strands pointing outwards. The updo would be an eye catching look at any prom. 1. Care for your hair – it seems obvious, but some girls dont know how to look after their hair properly
* Loose hair clips are better than tight ponytails
* Brush carefully, detangle hair properly
* Try not to pull on your hair – brush before showering
* If you have wavy, curled, tight or bunched hair, comb it when its wet
* Trim your hair every 6 weeks or so – keeps it growing at its best rate and makes the ends look good too!
2. Some hairstyles are better for your hair than others
* Dont overstyle, or style too often
* Blowdrying, curling and curling irons are hard on the hair
* Bleach and chemical dyes are also hard on the hair and may weaken it
* This goes for swimming in pools which have bleach in them to – bathing caps may be in order!
3. Dont tangle your hair when showering
4. Find a great Shampoo and Conditioner – experiment to find what works for you
5. Dont forget to try a volumiser!
6. Rub olive oil on your hair and scalp – give yourself a nice scalp massage at the same time (or swap with a friend!)
7. Make sure you drink enough water
When hair naturally grows slow
1. In the winter
2. When you are pregnant
3. Once menopause sets in
4. If your anorexic – your body doesnt have enough energy to grow your hair
5. Thyroid conditions can have an impact on hair growth
Vegetarians and hair growth
If your vegetarian, make sure you take in enough Vitamin C; Vitamin C along with Iron and B vitamins are essential for healthy hair growth. In fact multivitamins may be in order, but make sure you actually need them before spending money on the latest and greatest range. If you think you need a multivitamin because you are losing hair or your hair is too slow growing, ask your doctor.
